One of the most prominent features of the exhibition is the special oud chips that are on the verge of extinction, as they are sold at a staggering price of up to 100 thousand dirhams per kilogram.

Waseem from Dahab Oud and Perfumes said that a wonderful story comes from the Philippines, where people found agarwood trees on Leyte Island in 2016. “This agarwood was in great demand and was loved by people and many of them rushed to get it, on the verge of extinction. “In 2017, the price of this oud was just 5,000 dirhams per kilogram, and today it is worth 100,000 dirhams per kilogram,” Waseem said, adding that this big jump in price is because more people want it, and there are not a lot of it. He. She.

“This oud from the Philippines smells amazing and lasts a long time. Waseem added: “The best oud comes from trees that are 20 to 25 years old.”

Another type of oud that was in great demand at the exhibition was at the Altinhat booth. The booth displayed pieces of oud, whose prices range between 2,000 and 30,000 dirhams per kilogram. The kiosk also had oud oil at a price of 2000 dirhams for only 12 ml.

“The oud makes the perfume last a long time and it smells really nice at first. “It's something special for people who want exclusive, luxurious scents,” said the sales representative at the Altenhat booth.

These fragrances are obtained naturally through very complex processes. Nancy said: “The 12 ml oud oil, which costs 2,000 dirhams, is extracted from about 2 kilograms of wood.”

What is oud?

Oud is a special fragrance from trees in countries such as India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Vietnam and eastern countries. Making oud is hard work, as only a little of it (1 or 2 kilograms) comes from a whole ton of special trees.

Origins

Oud comes from certain trees infected with a special fungus. These trees, such as Aquilaria and Gerenopsis, create aromatic wood. People love it because of its warm, rich, and slightly sweet scent. On the other hand, perfume is a mixture of good-smelling oils, solvents, and other things.

production

Oud making is a bit complicated. First, people find trees that contain the appropriate fungus, then cut and dry the infected wood in the sun. Then they soak the dried wood in water and other things to get the essential oil. This oil is then distilled and aged to obtain the final product.

Uses

Oud is used alone for its natural scent, and is also used in the manufacture of perfumes, incense, and other aromatic scents. Because oud has a strong and long-lasting scent, only a little is used in perfumes to make it more interesting.
